Munich, January 30, 2019. Driven by rising customer expectations and new technologies, digitization in the retail sector is gathering momentum and developing apace. To demonstrate how digital AI assistants, location-based services, and omnichannel solutions are shaping the retail sector of tomorrow, KPS, a leading consulting partner for digital transformation, is appearing at the EuroCIS 2019 in Dusseldorf (Hall 10, Booth B42).
The focus of the trade show is digital technology for the retail sector; presenting technologies that can support innovative customer engagement and effective customer service both online and offline. One such technology is the virtual assistant: Customers can use chatbots or voice commands to easily make purchases, track orders and request support. In stores, customers can use location-based services, indoor navigation for example, to swiftly locate the product they are looking or receive personalized product recommendations. Digital signage at the POS connects the store to the online world: Displays become digital fashion advisors, using artificial intelligence to help customers select the right outfit. They also allow items that are not available in store to be ordered directly online.

What is the connection between the Internet of Things, beer, and e-commerce?
As digitization continues, we are seeing a growing number of comprehensive solutions integrating hardware and software. This trend is highlighted at the Internet of Beer showcase at the EuroCIS, which demonstrates the increasing interconnectedness of software (e-commerce) and hardware (IoT). For the showcase, KPS developed a table with an integrated weight sensor. The sensor measures the weight of the full beer glass and automatically triggers a new order when the glass is empty. Applied to retail, the technology could be used to reorder stock automatically as it clears from the rack. The integrated tablet in the table top can also be used hold the order, place additional orders, or make changes. Furthermore, the tablet provides information about ingredients, offers, and additional products, and the e-commerce application can be used to order a home delivery of the respective beer brand. Last but not least, the adverts displayed on the table can be personalized to the individual customer using intelligent algorithms. The intelligent beer mat and tablet make “ordering 4.0” in restaurants and bars a reality.
